The following was broadcast on KQED-FM.

Today in school we had a program brought to our school about the horrors of drinking and driving. The day was interrupted every 15 minutes to report a drunk driver that killed one of our students. The students who were announced on the loud speaker were not really dead but in another location. The point for calling their names out every 15 minutes was a reminder of how many people die a day because of alcohol related car accidents.

It also was showing if something were to happen to these people it would be awful for everyone. The students who were prounced dead, were without a phone and couldn't even go home so its as if they really died, they're referred to as the living dead. The death of the students was because a drunk driver hits them or because one of our students was texting and driving and wasn't paying attention, and then swerved and hit a tree.

It was devastating to see some of my closest friends die, because they're with you and then not.Yes, its not real but it really hit home because if something happened with those people who fake died, I don't know what I would do. Throughout the day we discussed the outcome of drunk driving in many of the classes we had throughout the day . Some kids will take this to heart and not drink and drive, but others will continue to do this. The people who decide not to stop hurt not only themselves but also all the people that love them.Just on Monday I heard some stories of people still drinking and driving. If a presentation such as the one I viewed doesn't help I don't know what will.So do the right thing, if you know your drinking that night, find a designated driver or call your parents.

Don't Drink and Drive.Stay Safe.

Three things have me uncontrollably excited this week. First, and most important to me is the release of rapper DMX from an Arizona correctional state facility. Ending his jail term for various offenses in 2008, DMX has announced he will be releasing a gospel album. While gospel albums usually inspire a yawn from most, myself included, DMX’s gospel project is enticing because he has incorporated religion in all of his commercial releases. Read more...
