Description:
Youth Radio is seeking an educator with expertise in teaching multi-media production to teens and possesses significant experience in a classroom or community organization setting. The strong candidate will have a solid background in youth development and curriculum-building and can work across several media training programs with Bay Area youth from different backgrounds. The Multi-media Classroom Instructor will oversee the day-to-day operations of the MATCH (Media Advocates Transforming Community Health) Program, implement daily classroom trainings, and play a key role within a team that executes major afterschool programs, including this one designed for youth who have had encounters with the juvenile justice system. This position holds principal oversight of the recruitment, training, and curriculum-building for MATCH participants as well as oversees the work of interns and Project Associates who peer teach for the program.
Responsibilities:
• Curriculum development, lesson planning, and classroom instruction for MATCH program as well as some workshops for our flagship training programs Core and Bridge
• Primary workshop facilitation responsibilities for MATCH with support from other team instructors
• Minor case management and advocacy for court-involved youth
• Primary recruitment activities for MATCH program including external recruitment presentations and interviewing applicants
• Primary data entry and maintenance for multiple data collection platforms (CitySpan and Efforts-to-Outcomes)
• Administer stipend payments and payroll transition for participants
• Supervision of youth team of assistant instructors
• Design and facilitate curricula specific to youth teaching cohort
• Maintain and establish relationships with Probation Officers, case managers, and other key referring agencies and community partners
• Representative of MATCH Program at city and community meetings, including monthly Neighborhood Crime Prevention Councils (NCPC), quarterly grantee meetings, and professional development trainings
• Facilitate media literacy, writing, and media production workshops at Camp Sweeney for 3 sessions each year, each one encompassing 11 meetings over the course of 10 weeks
• Recruit 10-12 students per session and clear participant eligibility with Probation Department Staff for Camp Sweeney program
• Assist with relevant grant reporting
Work Experience Requirements:
• Multimedia Teaching Experience (video and graphic design preferred) in classroom or community settings with a minimum of 3 years experience in the field
• Demonstrated production experience in video production, graphic design, and music production, using and teaching Final Cut Pro 7, Adobe Photoshop, Reason music production software, and ProTools
• Experience in curriculum development for at least two previous programs
• Demonstrated classroom management skills
• Youth Development Practitioner Experience
• Experience in a broadcast studio preferred
• Familiarity with youth in the juvenile justice system preferred
Education Requirements:
BA/BS or teaching credential preferred but not required
Position/Salary:
• This position reports to the Director of Media Education
• 40 hours per week (Full-time)
• Salary commensurate on experience
