Half-Studying

"I can either sprint to the finish line and then be pestered by my parents about running more laps, or I can run slowly, take some leisurely detours and finish the race at my own pace."

By Hayley Andrews

Some youth would definitely rather sit on MySpace or surf the internet than study...even when their books are right in front of them. Youth Radio's Hayley Andrews explains how she manages to blend personal "time wasting" activities like looking on MySpace with her studying. (October 15 on KCBS)

Being so academic six hours a day at school is tiring enough, but this is not even close to the end of my day as a student.

I am the unofficial master of the half-studying routine. What is half-studying you ask? It's an art, a delicate balance of working and frittering away your time.

Think about it like this, I can either sprint to the finish line and then be pestered by my parents about running more laps, or I can run slowly, take some leisurely detours and finish the race at my own pace.

My fellow students and I simply do not have the option of not studying, or at least, not looking productive most of the time.

My parents have caught me a few times with the MySpace page up over an educational website. But I bring home the grades and get the work done without having a mental breakdown, so they really can't complain.
