Exit Exam

"If the kids don’t learn, the teachers are also responsible."

By Simon Hadley

I was one of the lucky ones. I had the privilege and honor not to take the new dreadfully painful high school exit exam. In my opinion, that test is evil and must be destroyed.

What’s really messed up is, for this year’s juniors, if you don’t pass that test, all you get at the end of high school is a certificate of attendance. It’s a piece of paper saying you went to your specific high school for four years, and that’s it. It’s not a diploma. You can’t even get a real job with that. You can barely get to college.

I get the fact that we should know certain things to graduate. I understand that. But if the test is filled with all this material that students never really learn in high school, then students aren’t the only ones to blame. It takes two to tango. Or in this case, if the kids don’t learn, the teachers are also responsible.
