Heavy Books

"My backpack weighs at least 30 pounds with all the books."

Listen to this Commentary!

By William Robertson

I’m a junior in high school, and the homework load on students is exhausting.

My backpack weighs at least 30 pounds with all the books, which puts a strain on my back. A major reason why I have low grades is because I can’t take all my books home everyday. Sometimes I have to leave my books in my locker. If getting C’s and D’s isn’t enough, a full backpack also takes up too much room in crowded places like the bus.

Maybe the school could give us two sets of books, one to keep at home and one to leave in the classroom. Then we would just have to carry paper, something to write with, and our calculators instead of damaging our backs.
