Too Much School Work

"There’s too much work in high school for students to actually learn anything."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Kalid Mohammed

There’s too much work in high school for students to actually learn anything.

When I first walked into this class at the beginning of the semester I was expecting the teacher to introduce what we would be learning, and the different activities we would be doing. Instead, as soon as we walked in, she told us her name, the subject, and talked about the grading scale. Then out of nowhere she pulls out a giant packet that was so thick I thought it was another textbook. It turned out to be a packet of worksheets that we were supposed to finish for that week. I hate to tell the teacher I’m done with anything in her class because as soon as students finish one assignment, she adds another.

I’ve seen students tell their teachers that the work they’re getting is confusing and overwhelming. Teachers often take comments like that as complaints. Instead, teachers need to listen to their students suggestions, because they’re not preparing us for college, they’re just giving us a headache.
