The Virginity Tree

"Now that 18 is knocking at my door, and college is around the corner, I'm facing a new challenge."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Sanovia Jackson

We've all been virgins at some point in our lives. But some of us decide to jump from the virginity tree at an earlier age than others.

Being a senior in high school, I feel pressured to lose my virginity more than ever before. But the thing about me is, I don't want to get my heart torn in two by a guy who I'm sexually active with. Most times it seems girls are more emotionally connected to sex than men. Now that 18 is knocking at my door, and college is around the corner, I'm facing a new challenge.

I'm about to be on my own. No parents there to tell me to come in at a certain time or to say he can't go into your room because he's a boy. It's up to me to decide who comes and goes.

The good thing is, my mom was never strict on me. She gave me the scoop on the boy anatomy at a young age, and ever since then, we've been open with each other. So I can honestly say I'm not going to go buck wild when I reach college freedom.
