No Regrets

"My best friend just moved to a dorm room at a state university and every time I go there to visit her, I can’t help but think, 'That could be me...'"

By Jennifer Marshall

Youth Radio's Jennifer Marshall reflects on the choices she made in high school, and why she wants to live a life with "no regrets." (February 18 on KCBS)

These days, when I see people I used to know in high school, one question often comes up. “So, any regrets?”

I usually reply, “Life is just a bunch of learning experiences.” But the truth is, even though I say the bad decisions I’ve made in my life have made me the “person that I am”...that doesn’t make me regret them any less.

My junior and senior year of high school, I messed up big time. People would always ask me, “You know your going to regret this one day right?” I didn’t listen to them. Now I realize that they were right.

My best friend just moved to a dorm room at a state university and every time I go there to visit her, I can’t help but think, “That could be me right now if I just hadn’t messed up.”

My regrets about high school have turned into a motivator to help me do better in college. So one day, maybe I will have that state college experience and be able to say truthfully, “No, I have no regrets. Just a bunch of learning experiences.”
