TV Addict

"Like an alcoholic beginning treatment, I admit I have a problem. On average, I watch about ten hours of TV a day."

By Destorian Cash

Listen to this Commentary!

Even though some parents might think it's bad to watch too much TV, Youth Radio's Destorian Cash disagrees. After turning down an invite to a guys night out, Destorian found out that watching television actually kept him out of trouble. He says, "Once, some of my friends asked me to go out on a Saturday night. I declined saying I couldn’t miss a movie that was premiering on BET. That night, they all got drunk and wound up arrested for assault and battery."(July 15 on WABE)

I watch too much TV... I’m addicted. Like an alcoholic beginning treatment, I admit I have a problem. On average, I watch about ten hours of TV a day.

But before you say how bad this is for me, you might be interested to know that TV actually keeps me out of trouble. My friends do a lot of things I’m sure their parents would not approve of – like smoking marijuana.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, I am being raised in a strict household. So the time I might spend in the streets getting into mischief, I spend watching my favorite programs instead.

Once, some of my friends asked me to go out on a Saturday night. I declined, saying I couldn’t miss a movie premiering on BET. That night, they all got drunk and wound up arrested for assault and battery.

Fortunately, I keep my nose clean and my eyes glued to the television. I am active in sports and stay fit, but when I come home, I’m back to just sitting in front of the television. It’s my comforter, and my best friend.
