(download mp3)The Aldo Leopold writing contest was a New Mexico state-wide writing contest that invited students 6th-12th grade to send in a letter addressed to Aldo Leopold. The topic of the letter was to tell Leopold how his writing concerning "land ethics" are still relevant in today's society.
Sunday, November 8th 2009, the KUNM Youth Radio Project hosted first place Aldo Leopold contest winners, Tita VanFleet, Zena Stevenson and Sierra Smith in their studios where the contest winners spoke about Aldo Leopold and read their winning essays.
Tita, who is in the 7th grade at Cottonwood Valley Charter School, won first place for the 6th-7th grade range. Her essay drwas upon Leopold's Good Oak in order to focus on land ethics. Take a listen to Tita VanFleet read her contest winning essay…
