Can you imagine being pulled over because police think you look like an illegal immigrant? How does an illegal immigrant look anyway? These are the questions protesters at UC Berkeley were asking on Thursday regarding Arizonan’s new immigrant detention law. Bill 1070 gives authorities the right to detain people who they suspect are in the country illegally.

About 500 people gathered at UC Berkeley’s campus to show solidarity. They were also requesting UC Berkeley’s Chancellor Robert J. Birgeneau to make Cal a sanctuary campus.

Legal Precedent / Federal Law and the 100 mile border radius

Look up "Muehler, Darin v. Mena, Iris (03/22/2005)" from the supreme court. The questioning of immigration status has since then been decided. It's legal. Compare it to federal law. You will find, that federal law actually in it's wording is broader, allowing profiling. AZ's law clearly states that race and some other issues can not be used. Only if already a law has been broken, in the course of action (due to a broken law..) the police has to check immigration status. So, if you don't break the law, even being illegal you have no trouble. And finally, the USA has already the 100-Mile Border Zone as ‘Constitution-Free’. A zone in which police doesn't need reasonable cause to stop and frisk.. Isn't most of California within 100 miles of a border?? So please be informed, before you protest or put up a statement as above.
