(download mp3)Wednesday evening in Downtown Oakland saw the first community rally since the arrest of former BART police officer Johanes Merhsle on suspicion of the murder of 22-year old Oscar Grant. Grant’s family members, students, local artists, business owners, and community organizers came out to voice their frustrations and support.
In the midst of the tightly organized demonstration, Youth Radio reporters Kareem Chadly and Denise Tejada spoke with legendary rapper Too Short about Oakland residents coming together to stand by their city, and Mayor Ron Dellums about his role in the aftermath of the shooting.
