With thousands believed dead in the wake of a massive earthquake in Haiti, humanitarian efforts are beginning to shape up. Nations throughout the hemisphere are sending aid and relief workers to the island nation. For its part the Obama administration announced that the United States would be sending search and rescue teams from Florida, Virginia  and California.

If you're looking to get involved with the relief efforts, more information is available at the White House's website. Donations can also be made to the Red Cross online or by texting  "HAITI" to "90999" on your mobile phone.

This is an opportunity for out president to do something for Hati and our unemployed American construction workers. Create govt. construction jobs to provide permenent shelter for the devastated Hatians. If they do not get properly constructed housing the next time a hurricane or earthquake occurs this will all happen again. The Govt could pay 13 bucks an hour and write off the taxes on that. Of course we should feed and house the workers doing this so most of the money they make they could bank (Which would help the banking industry). And we would be giving the money to people willing to work for it instead of just dropping it into a bottomless pit like we are doing now. It would be a boon for the construction supply retailers too. This is a WIN WIN situation and I do not think even a Klansman could complain because it provide much needed relief to Our people.

This would be a win-win situation. Hire the people that know the construction industry here and can't find work. I have built many multi-family and single family homes and never failed an inspection. Do something right with the government monies. Help both our countries and citizens. I would go, but the affordability is out of the question. Housing is dead hear but that is what they need there. Here is hoping the government doesn't throw their money and everyone who donates into a hole for profiteering. peowens923@yahoo.com
