More than Media…
Youth Radio is committed to improving the lives of young people in every way…
Welcome to Youth Radio Eats! Each week, young people prepare daily healthy snacks and a Friday night dinner for all youth in the program: this means catering for nearly 100 people once a week! The young people of Youth Radio Eats learn about food and nutrition in a fun atmosphere, and receive education about the social, cultural and economic aspects of food. Topics covered include food justice, food equity, and disparities in access to healthy food.
Youth Radio regularly partners with community farmers to gain access to fresh, local ingredients, allowing students to learn about the business behind growing food. Youth Radio Eats students gain valuable hands-on skills in cooking, catering, and food preparation from industry professionals, and may pursue future internships or careers in the food industry. At the same time, all participants in Youth Radio’s programs are provided with access to healthy meals.
The young people of Youth Radio Eats also produce the Youth Radio Eats blog, which researches community food related actions.
