2PM is a 7 member K-POP boy band, who debuted September 4, 2008. It’s now a year later and 2PM should be celebrating their one year anniversary. But instead of singing Happy Birthday, 2PM is dealing with a MySpace controversy. Jaebeom-- who is the leader of 2PM-- has offended many netizens with some of the MySpace comments he posted 4 years ago.

Jaebeom’s comments has been circulating all over the internet and one of the them reads, “korea is gay.... i hate koreans...”

Many American K-POP fans are saying that Jaebeom’s comments are typical for a teenager. It’s common for someone in Oakland to say “That’s gay,” without actually meaning to offend anyone. However, it’s very hard for netizens because slang is a difficult thing to understand if you don’t speak English.

Jaebeom released an official apology, stating that is was a very difficult time period for him. Jaebeom was born and raised in the United States, so he is not use to Korea, its culture, traditions and the overall atmosphere. Jaebeom says felt like an outsider and was homesick. There were times when he wanted to give up, because he was unsure if he was even going to debut. He apologizes for his young, foolish mistake and is embarrassed of the comments. After adjusting to the diverse environment, Jaebeom claims to have become a different person, who truly has love for Korea.

Yet even after Jaebeom’s apology, there are still anti-fans who have true hatred toward Jaebeom. There was a petition created on Agora, which is a Korean website, called “Jaebeom Should Commit Suicide” and it had over 3,000 signatures. It was taken down, but many left comments such as “Go back to America” or “I’m disgusted by you”. However, there seems to be more supporters than haters, because more than 6,000 people signed the “Please Forgive Our Jaebeom Just This Once” petition.

Jaebeom’s fellow group members and other K-POP artists have shown nothing but support for Jaebeom. Even one of the neitzens who is reponsible for leaking Jaebeom's comments apologized, but the damage was already done. Jaebeom has decided quit 2PM and leave Korea. Many fans went to the airport to try to stop Jaebeom from leaving and even left post-it notes at the JYP Center saying, “You didn’t do anything wrong” and “Please Come Back”. But Jaebeom is now back in the United States.

NichKhun and Taecyeon are also members from 2PM who are from the United States. So many anti-2PM neitzens are searching and trying to dig up comments these two might have made.

I am a huge 2PM fan, and I can honestly say that 2PM isn’t the same without Jaebeom. 2PM was supposed to release an album in October, but now the future of 2PM is uncertain.
