The preliminary hearing for an ex-BART police officer begins today. Johannes Mesherle is accused of killing 22-year-old Oscar Grant this past New Year's Day. This case has received national attention due to the events being recorded on a bystander’s cell phones, and on videocameras. The hearing was originally scheduled to begin in March but was postponed after the death of four Oakland police officers in a violent standoff.

Mesherle’s attorney argues his client was trying to tase Grant with a stun gun when he accidentally discharged his service weapon. According to Sfgate.com , another video may be the clearest of the videos taken the night of the shooting. It will be shown at the hearing and the man who shot the video might be asked to testify.

As of this post, protesters are gathering outside the courthouse chanting, “We are Oscar Grant”.
