L.A. Youth Continue to Send the Message to LAUSD

This past Tuesday, students rallied outside the Los Angles Unified School District's (LAUSD) headquarters to protest the proposed teacher cuts that potentially could leave 2,500 people without jobs and further increase the already overflowing class sizes.  Since many of the teachers laid off will be those who have only one or two years experience, the cuts will disproportionately affect schools in East and South Los Angeles.  At Tuesday's rally, students from middle and high schools in these areas were joined in solidarity by up to 300 supporters-- including teachers, parents, community, and union members-- in bringing the message of dissatisfaction to the LAUSD board members’ doorstep.

The rally is the latest in a series of protests that also has included a teachers' hunger strike, which is now on day 15.  Here is Lincoln High School teacher Sean Leys, one of the key organizers of the protests:
