Leaving Water for Illegal Immigrants is a Crime

Immigration is an issue that constantly has me on the edge of my seat, always waiting to hear what’s going to happen next. But, as I sit on the edge of my seat, nothing seems to be happening -- at least in Washington. There’s still no immigration reform, yet immigrants continue to face discrimination. In Pottsville, Pennsylvania a group of football players beat a Mexican immigrant to death, apparently just for being Latino. Recently, Walt Staton from Arizona was sentenced to 300 hours of community service and a year of probation after being caught leaving water bottles in the desert for illegal immigrants. Staton’s lawyer argued that his client’s actions were humanitarian, but the judge said otherwise.

Walt Staton, a member of the group No More Deaths, left full water bottles in December in Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge for the illegal immigrants who routinely pass through the 18,000-acre refuge, according to court documents. A judge sentenced him Tuesday to 300 hours of picking up trash on public property and a year of probation. Via CNN

Immigration is an issue that people struggle to figure out. That said, it’s obvious people are not afraid to express their dislike towards illegal immigrants. Take this 72-year-old lady in Azle, Texas who posted a sign in front of her house that reads: “Hispanics Keep Out”.

While I am still waiting to hear President Obama talk about pushing for an immigration reform, I know that I will continue to see negative and racist actions making the headlines first.

I'm aware that there are other priorities that Obama needs to address first, like the economy and health care, but immigration is also an issue in need of attention and leadership.

This is a very touchy subject as illegal immigrants are not entitled to the rights and benefits of living in the United States but then legal immigrants should always be. online casino
