According to stayteen.org, 3 out of 10 teen girls in the United States become pregnant every year, resulting in 750,000 births for girls between the ages of 13 and 19. But what about those who don’t give birth? Those who choose abortion, rather than facing the challenges of being pregnant, especially as a teen? Childtrendsdatabank.org states that “more than 1/3 of teen pregnancies in America end in abortion.”

Despite the numbers, the controversial discussions that often follow make abortion a touchy subject that is rarely talked about. The topic has become a war between republican and democrat, the religious and the atheist, further dividing America. Although I am neither a republican nor someone with overly religious views on the subject, I do have what some would consider a conservative view. I believe that if someone is not using contraceptives or trying to prevent themselves from getting pregnant, then abortion should not be an option. If someone is just having unprotected sex they should deal with its consequences and consider the issues that may follow. However, if one is having sex, but is using contraceptives such as condoms and birth control, they should have the opportunity to abort.
