I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed. Here I am, spending a semester in Washington, D.C. during the biggest election of my lifetime, and it feels like just another average day. Besides the few "I voted" stickers stuck on people's business shirts, it doesn't seem as if Washingtonians are all that hyped up. Granted, it's still early, but I figured the energy here on Election Day would be outrageous. I mean, this is the nation's capital!

When I got to work, my friend Melina, who is from Puerto Rico, expressed similar frustrations. She told me she couldn't help but notice the lack of enthusiasm here in the States. In Puerto Rico, she says, people are out in the streets for the local elections. People there are spending their day off celebrating and joining "caravanas," which are groups of cars that get together and scream in support of a political party. I would love to see that kind of enthusiasm here (for those of you who speak Spanish, here are some great news updates and photos of the scene in Puerto Rico).

The lack of excitement in D.C. could be a result of the weather, but I would like to think that grey skies and a light drizzle are not enough to dampen people's spirits today. This is what we've been waiting for, so let's get ENERGIZED!
