Susan Boyle Rips Through Billboard Charts

Susan Boyle may not look the part, but as of now, she is the biggest female recording artist in the world. Her debut CD, I Dreamed a Dream hit number one on the Billboard charts in its first week out (last week), which makes her CD the highest selling, most successful first week sales for a female artist of all time. I Dreamed a Dream moved over 700,000 units the first week, surpassing Eminem's come back album Relpase by about 100,000, and making Susan Boyles CD the highest charting release this year.

In a musical setting where CD sales are at an all time low, this is a huge feat. A big part of her success has to do with Boyle's demographic and audience. They are most likely older, and whiter. They are from a generation that still buys CD’s where as most new artists target an iPod, Limewire crazed audience. So what does that tell you hip-hoppers? If you want to sell some records, you better start making music for the OG’s who sip tea!
