Music has had an effect on society, since the beginning of time. For many years music has helped different people in different ways. Music has a strong impact on the media as well. There are so many different types of music, effecting different cultures, religions, house holds, and personalities. A lot of cultures are affected in different ways, but the African American culture is effected more then any other culture. Music has a much more negative effect on the African American society. There are many music genres, let’s start with rap. Rap can have a very positive message, but other times it can have a really negative message. Fortunately the only negative thing about rap is the words that are used, and the message that is portrayed. Such as the really cruel names they call individuals, or the message they set for young women. For example, in order to be beautiful you have to be half naked.

Rappers tend to tell their fans that it’s okay to call all young ladies, sexually explicit names. Realistically it’s not okay and it’s not true. It makes young women who have a low self esteem and women who may not have a mom or dad feel worse. Then their going to think its okay for a boy or man to disrespect her, given the fact that all “the cool” rappers call girls those names. It makes young ladies, have a lack of self respect, and a loss of self worth. Not only does it affect our young ladies, it also affects our young men. It affects a lot of the young men who don’t have a father figure who sets a positive example. Forcing them to look up to the very famous rappers who made it out the “hood’. Making our future citizens, have a lack of respect. I’m sure other cultures listen to rap, I’m sure rap doesn’t only affect the African American culture. It has a very big impact on a lot of other cultures. That’s why we have to come together and find ways to protect our society and our future generation from the horrific content of our music.

real talk its in the first

real talk its in the first ammendment thats gives the right to freedom of speech and its also a form of poetry so its not just rap its how they are expressing themselves lyrically not physically they could just put the words in just to be saying them and not even mean it towards a women at all it could be about a man when they call them Bitches or hoes

rap...

Do you really think the problem is with rap? not the movies? or the freedom to access anything on the internet? slipping american values and manners in society? we have much bigger problems with raising the youth than rap music...

Thank you for addressing this issue!

I completely agree with you on the horrors of rap music! I am one of the rare teens that refuse to listen to that stuff even if it supposedly "cool". Its not cool to make girls think they have to look like a slut to be worth something! And its not cool for guys to look or act like they are part of a gang! Another thing these "artist" (i use the term artist loosely" are saying is that its okay to look like you just walked out of an alley dealing drugs! Anyway i am actually doing a research project on the negative effects on rap for a project. This article really helped me with my research and opinions! Thanks!

Whats going on?

do you really think that music causes all of this or just the people who listen to this? if we were all smart we wouldnt care about stupid stuff like this dont you think and giving the facts girls listen to this music and feel that they have to do what the song says in order to be liked by a boy.

Alots going on!

Just imagine what the boys are doing to impress the girls? Its deeper than RAP!

The real problem with Rap!

The record companies put out music that sells, so the real problem is that if the fans are buying alot of this type of music then thats what the record companies are going to put out no matter who dont like it. Some of the artist that make this type of ( negative )music dont even live that type of life style. They are just trying to make some money. Besides that, if our fore fathers would have believe in our culture maby we would have had more active leaders on board for this generations hip hop experiance, but the Oprahs and Bill Cosby's thought it would be just a passing fad, that it would not last. Thanks to Big greedy ( the White Man ) record corporation Hip Hip Hop has stood the test of time. And lets face it America loves drama, and you as a fan have to take responsibility for suporting the type of music that make YOU feel good! Trevon M.
