BY-NC-SA The first (nearly) vegetarian spider discovered by scientists is a Mexican species. It is the first spider known to hunt only plants as its primary food. The spider, called B. kiplingi, is the size of a thumbnail. B. kiplingi doesn't need to use a lot of energy to catch prey, so it has diverted its web spinning abilities to build family homes instead. Mother spiders use their webs to rear their young. Usually spiders are not known to eat solid food, rather they digest it outside the body and the consume the rest as a soup-like substance. But this spider eats its vegetables whole.
