Unhealthy Eating Habits

"As for me, I know I can do it… I don’t want to be one of those people who becomes heavy and then stays that way for the rest of their lives."

By Kadesha McCastle

Listen to this Commentary!

Millions of teens across America would rather buy a hamburger from McDonalds than actually take time out of their day to make a healthy meal. Youth Radio's Kadesha McCastle is one of those teens who doesn't make healthy decisions...even though she knows she should. She says, "I tell myself every day that I am going to eat healthy. But just the other morning, I ate a bag of potato chips for breakfast. That was a bad decision."

Picture this: a big juicy hamburger with cheese and ketchup running down the sides. Hot, greasy french fries with lots of salt ….mmmm.

Yeah, I probably made you hungry, but hopefully for some healthier foods. But I know I should change my eating habits. I tell myself every day that I am going to eat healthy. But just the other morning, I ate a bag of potato chips for breakfast. That was a bad decision.

There were many other healthier foods in my house but the chips were the easiest to eat and I was being lazy.

I’m a little frightened about the effects of my diet later in life. The more garbage I eat, the more unhealthy my body becomes. And as I get older, I remind myself to eat salads, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Kids of my generation are eating so much junk food, it’s going to be hard to convince everyone to change. I saw my friend pile on the pounds from eating lots of fast food and now I’m worried about her.

As for me, I know I can do it… I don’t want to be one of those people who becomes heavy and then stays that way for the rest of their lives.
