Gold Teeth

Listen to this Commentary!

By Anthony Martinez

I got my gold teeth last year when I was 16. I saw other people with them and I liked the way they looked.

I'm Anthony Martinez with a commentary from Youth Radio.

One day I stopped at this jewelry store called MR Bling Bling. They had a whole bunch of moldings of people's teeth with gold fronts on them. I thought to myself this looks kind of sick - you know, kind of cool. I wanna get some of these.

The bad thing was they were 50 dollars a tooth. They cost me 150 dollars.

My dad just laughed when I showed him my teeth. The first month, my mom didn't want me to wear them in front of her. After that, she didn't care. Some of my friends already had gold teeth so it wasn't really a big deal. But some people said I didn't look right - mostly girls. They thought I was stupid for spending the money, and for having gold in my mouth.

Lately, it seems like there are a lot of youth who have gold teeth. But I wouldn't say that was MY reason. I didn't do it to look like anyone else. I did it for myself.

I'm planning on getting two more teeth - to have what they call "a grill" - all six front teeth in gold. I think that will be enough. And I'll look GOOD with my golden smile.

For Youth Radio, I'm Anthony Martinez.
