Juvenile Crime

"There’s a lot of violence surrounding our youth, corrupting their minds with violent thoughts."

By Mark Brown

In today’s society, more and more crimes are committed by people my age. Every now and then, you might hear someone in school talk about going to juvenile hall or running from the police. They talk about it like it’s a thing to be proud of. How can you be proud of that when you need to apply for a job or start a family? Most of the time I hear teens talking about drugs, weapons, fighting, or robbing somebody.

It seems like these things are becoming a daily routine for some teens. I admit to doing such actions, but when I think about it, I wish I hadn’t done most of them. But in certain situations, some of the things I’ve done were out of survival.

When I think about why teens commit crimes, I think about how they grew up into their life. Then I realize there’s a lot of violence surrounding our youth, corrupting their minds with violent thoughts. Violence is on television, in movies, and even in books. In most cases, violence lives in their environment. It’s like violence teaches kids morality, which usually leads to crime.

One thing people should think about before committing a crime is how many families would be affected, including their own. You also have to think of the consequences, for example, if you were behind the trigger of a gun and you were intending to shoot someone, would it really be worth ending their life so you could live your life incarcerated and with regrets? Increase the peace.
