Ecstasy for the Next Generation

"I don’t understand why youth are so obsessed with these drugs. They say it takes away some stress, but I don’t believe it."

By Amy Saechao

These days, where I’m from, you can pretty much count on seeing just about all the youth taking ecstasy pills. They claim that it makes them feel good, but I think a lot of them fall into peer pressure that comes along with it and just want to make themselves look “cool”.

These pills, also known as E, X, Ethers or Stunnas do a lot of damage to a person’s mind and the effect is even worse when a younger person does it because their brain and body are not yet fully developed. The side effects of ecstasy pills can go anywhere from a slight headache and dizziness, to death.

I remember there was a magazine article about a 12 year-old girl who died because of overdosing on X. Her friends did not want to tell anyone she was in trouble because of the fear of getting in trouble themselves. This story just proves the point that when you’re surrounded by others who are also on the same stupidity pills you are, you don’t have anyone to have your back because everyone else, including you, is in a daze.

When people pop e-pills, or “thizz”, they lose brain cells and begin to hallucinate. Though the popularity of these pills are bulging today, I think later on in life, maybe even just less than a decade away from now, the next generation of youth will think differently about ecstasy pills.

Just like crack cocaine was popular back in the day, its popularity amongst youth has faded. Now, when people see someone who still takes this drug, they think it’s disgusting and refers to the person as a “knock”, “dope fiend”, or “crack head”.

I find that ecstasy will soon be heading down that exact same road. When we’re all older and people are wandering around thizzin’, the newer generation will look at them and they’ll think, “Eeeww, X head”, or something like that. I don’t understand why youth are so obsessed with these drugs. They say it takes away some stress, but I don’t believe it. Though it may make you feel good for a while, the consequences are too high.

It’s sad that so many young people fall into the trap of e-pills. It’s not that difficult to say “NO!” Why would someone want to throw their life on the line for just a couple of hours of pleasure? So when you hear someone say, “triple stacks, unicorn”, you can trust that they’re not referring to a mythical creature with wings.
