Peer Pressure

"On Sundays, my friend Courtney invites me to join her and her family to go to church. That’s peer pressure – but the good kind!"

By Andre Munford

Listen to this Commentary!

When most people think of peer pressure, they may think of something negative...like kids trying to make each other drink, or experiment with drugs. But Youth Radio's Andre Munford doesn't think of peer pressure like that. Instead, he sees it "as a way of making our society change...and it’s a good thing." (September 30 on Atlanta's WABE)

I have a surprising view on peer pressure. I’m surrounded by it. Everywhere I go. If you believe what you hear on the news, you might think peer pressure is what is making young people like me fail in school and life. But peer pressure can be good. I see it as a way of making our society change.

Although I am surrounded by negative influences from my so-called friends, I have many friends that encourage me to do what is right, not getting me caught up doing the wrong thing.

On Sundays, my friend Courtney invites me to join her and her family to go to church. That’s peer pressure – but the good kind!

Peer pressure is my life...and it’s a good thing.
