Breast Implants

"I still can’t understand why a major surgical procedure that involves stuffing silicone bags into your body has become common."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Tadina Ross

When graduation season met its peak this year, it seemed that gift givers got creative with their parting gifts for beloved seniors.

Instead of the usual new wardrobe, laptop computer or trip to Cancun, some female graduates got a set of new breasts.

Our society has become used to plastic surgery, with the dozens of extreme makeover shows, and countless images of busty women becoming the norm. But I still can’t understand why a major surgical procedure that involves stuffing silicone bags into your body has become common.

Technology has brought us to a point where we can change things we don’t like about ourselves in an instant. Surely, this isn’t how we want to live our lives. Who wants to become the next Stepford, where everyone looks and acts perfectly?

I’d much prefer setting a trend based on what makes me different, rather than following a trend that makes me look like every other girl on TV. I feel much more perfect knowing that I’m not like everyone else, but uniquely my own.
