I’m living in South Central L.A. where crazy vatos don’t play. Vatos just kick it in the street, getting high and drinking all day. My hood is evil. You see me and the homies always up to something. Like pitching in money to buy a 12 pack of MGD’s or trying to catch an enemy slipping. Slipping is when you’re in enemy territory or in the wrong hood.
You might see me with the hinas -the hinas are the girls- just getting high and doing evil shi…, you know messing around. We gang bang day by day. Gang banging means putting in work for the hood, like shooting at the enemies to earn respect for your territory. A lot of things in the hood get messed up because of drug dealing. Sometimes people from another part of town come to the block where we’re dealing the drugs, making the money, slanging the deals. They come, and they try to take over. If they are selling better stuff than we are, people will go to them instead. That’s when we have to kick them out.
Fools are going insane for sniffing cocaine. Mess around and slip and get a bullet in your brain for saying the wrong gang that you claim. One time I was slipping in the wrong side and got stabbed two times in my arm and once in my head. But I’ve since forgotten about that. It’s sad to see lil’ kids die ‘cause other vatos are shooting at you or at innocent people. I haven’t seen it, but I‘ve heard about it enough times to know.
As they are laughing and getting high, I see my homies serving time for doing homicide. You might catch me at Avalon and 99th Street smoking weed with the homie from E.K.L.A.N.- that’s the name of the hood, the “Evil Klan.” We might be snapping and kidnapping. When the sun goes down, it’s time to go home and sleep, to forget about what happened during the day. Even though I want to forget about happenings in my ‘hood, I don’t want to leave it because it’s my family.
