Race and Shootings

Listen to this Commentary!

Antoine Bazilio, Radio Rookies

I can't stop thinking about that shooting in San Diego where a kid went to school and shot two of his schoolmates.

I'm Antoine Bazilio with a commentary from Radio Rookies in New York City.

Now THIS I don't understand. It's just plain common sense not to go to school and shoot people. It seems like people only expect this of minorities. Look at places like Harlem, the Bronx, and Brooklyn, school security is so tight that you couldn't get a gun into school - much less shoot someone. Why can't we get rid of these stereotypes? People have such low expectations of minorities. They always think WE'RE going to do something bad.

I heard about the black kid who accidentally killed a little girl while wrestling. He got life in jail. But what I don't understand is why people aren't talking much about putting the WHITE kid in San Diego behind bars. How come he just needs help? I'm not saying the black kid was right, but in certain situations, our society can be so biased.

For Youth Radio, I'm Antoine Bazilio.
