On-Air Archives

NPR
A selection of our national reports and commentaries on NPR's news magazines such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered, including our award winning series "E-Mails from Kosovo." Youth Radio reporters for NPR follow youth culture, trends, politics, education, and personal experiences.

KQED
Youth Radio produces a monthly public affairs show for KQED-FM in the Bay Area. Our goal is to inform and educate youth about issues that affect us.

In addition, Youth Radio produces a monthly two minute "Perspective," where young commentators reflect on current events and talk about their experiences with various issues such as race, politics, the economy, and culture.

KCBS
Youth Radio airs weekly one-minute commentaries on 740-AM in the Bay Area, on topics ranging from eating disorders and teen pregnancy to clothing and cartoons.

KISQ
Youth Radio contributes features to Childhood Matters on 98.1 KISS-FM (KISQ) San Francisco. Childhood Matters is a talk show devoted to parenting, offering support for all parents and other adults who care about youth.

KLOK
Youth Radio contributes features to Nuestros Niños on Cumbia 1170 KLOK-AM San Francisco. Nuestros Niños is a Spanish language talk show about parenting for Latino families. Radio Cumbia is San Francisco Bay Area's first station devoted to playing the diverse and rich sounds from Mexico and Central/South America known as Cumbia music, a contemporary rhythmic genre.

KCRW
Which Way L.A.? on KCRW-FM is an essential public affairs program on the Southern California media landscape. They are quick, comprehensive, and in-depth with coverage on issues from regional water woes and the inevitable natural crisis to the mayor's race and how international treaties affect our local communities. Which Way L.A.? regularly airs Youth Radio L.A. commentaries during the Reporter's Notebook section of their program.

KPCC
KPCC, 89.3 FM is a non-profit NPR affiliate broadcasting from Pasadena City College and serving Southern California. Youth Radio contributes to two of KPCC's award-winning news talk programs- Talk of the City and Air Talk.

WTOP
Youth Radio commentaries from the Latin American Youth Center air each Sunday on WTOP-AM&FM in Washington, D.C. A CBS affiliate with three frequencies (102.7 FM, 1500 and 820 AM), WTOP is consistently one of the top three most listened-to stations in Washington, D.C. Commentaries air hourly starting at 4:53 p.m. and run throughout the evening and overnight. Washington, D.C. is the eighth-largest radio market in the country.

KPFA
Youth Radio on KPFA 94.1-FM is our weekly public affairs magazine, highlighting the latest in youth music, news, and culture and Youth Radio interviews, commentaries, and features. Stories and playlists for the program are contributed by Youth Radio students and graduates. In addition to this show, KPFA also broadcasts Youth Radio commentaries.

KPFB
Used strictly as a training vehicle, KPFB is the sub-carrier of Pacifica station KPFA. Youth Radio's core training class produces a magazine-style radio show, "Youth In Control," which runs on KPFB each Friday from 7-9 p.m. Youth Radio's bridge training class produces the more advanced radio show, "Youth Radio All Stars," which runs each Thursday from 4-6 p.m. Each Monday from 4-6 p.m., our "Remote Control" show features music, commentaries and features from at-risk older youth, youth from local high schools, and incarcerated youth.

PRI
Public Radio International distributes Youth Radio pieces and shows to radio stations across the country.

Latino USA
Youth commentaries and reports, with a Latino focus, with stories ranging from a young immigrant aspiring to be president, to race relations between African-American and Latino youth.

Radio Bilingue
Línea Abierta is the first and only public radio program in Spanish that reaches the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Launched in 1995 via satelite, the program is one hour long and airs Monday through Friday. The format is a magazine of news spots, features, interviews, round-tables, and call-ins focusing on immigration, education, arts, culture, and news.

WABE
Youth Radio Atlanta is produced in conjunction with WABE-FM and Grady High School, funded in part by The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. You can hear commentaries during Morning Edition and Weekend Edition Saturday on WABE 90.1 FM in Atlanta.

Georgia Public Broadcasting
Since 1984, Georgia Public Broadcasting's listener-supported, 15-station public radio network has been Georgia's source for great music and National Public Radio (NPR) news.

Democracy Now!
A national news show committed to bringing the voices of the marginalized to the airwaves on issues ranging from the global to the local.

WETA
The Intersection on 90.1 WETA FM in the Washington, D.C. metro area, engages guests and callers in lively discussions about issues at the heart of communities in the District, Maryland and Virginia. Whether the topic is immigration or jay walking, taxes or Tai Shan, The Intersection features guests and commentators that represent multicultural perspectives reflective of the region’s diverse population. Youth Radio DC students at the Latin American Youth Center contribute features to this program.



Youth Radio's National Network

Youth Radio has bureaus in D.C., Atlanta and Los Angeles, where we produce local and national programming. We also work with youth correspondents around the country and the world, through a combination of partnerships with youth organizations and working one-on-one with teens in remote locations. Network programming is featured locally on public radio stations around the country, and nationally on NPR, PRI and Marketplace.

Youth Radio Atlanta can be heard locally on WABE 90.1 FM during Weekend Edition Saturday, featuring the commentaries of young people from metro Atlanta schools and youth organizations. Youth Radio Atlanta also produces web commentaries in writing workshops around the city. Commentators and reporters join Youth Radio through collaborations with schools and youth groups including: Grady High School, VOX newspaper, Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, the YMCA and Dunwoody High School.

Youth Radio LA is based out of NPR West and can be heard locally on KCRW 89.9 FM and KPCC 89.3 FM. Youth Radio’s Audiopostales cross-border radio project is also produced out of Youth Radio LA with teenagers in Tijuana, Mexico and Los Angeles. Youth Radio LA reporters and commentators come from diverse Los Angeles youth organizations, including Reach LA, Street Poets Inc, Masada Homes, LACAAW, 826 LA, Community Services Unlimited Inc. and others.

Youth Radio DC is based out of the Latin American Youth Center’s Art and Media House, and can be heard locally on WTOP 820 AM & WTOP 104.3 and WETA 90.1 FM. Youth Radio DC also produces public affairs programming for Youth Radio’s web radio station.

Correspondents
Our extensive youth correspondent network links individual young people across the country and around the globe with adult professional editors and producers, and youth peer editors who work with them to bring their stories to audiences on the web and the radio.
