Black American Queen

By Danasha Edmond

Listen to this Commentary!

Youth Radio's Danasha Edmond explores what it means to be a Black American Queen in this personal reflection on womanhood and race.

Black American Queen: that’s the title of my theme
That’s the dip within my swing
And the mug within my mean
With the Black American Queen

Pride
I’m the statue that stands high
With eyes glowing as I glide
Known to always scrape to the sky
Black American Queen
Eyes like candy devourer too much
You might get cooties
Essence that’s sweeter than chocolate as See's candy
My attitude spicier than a steak's

I got a Black American tribe
Call me stallion as I ride
Pretty brown American queen
Sometimes shy
But I’m a sight for sore eyes
A natural healing is what I’ll pride
With a sensational feeling

As the effect on the side I’m a
Black American goddess skin
Smoother than milk chocolate call me
Pretty brown American queen
Keep the first man in my pocket
My presence will over flow like Niagara Falls
My American milkshake brings all the boys to the bars

As my vocabulary flies high
Your subject to fall and then down will come away
Cradle and fall so with the voice to face
You’ve seen and the fairy to all the tales
BLACK AMERICAN QUEEN
