Potion of Many Flavors

By Leon Sykes

Youth Radio's Leon Sykes reflects on alcohalism and addiction through poetry and metaphor.

Potion of many different Flavors
Sittin at the house holdin this Majestical Mind Potion
Powers of consumption soothes my body
calms me like sounds of the ocean
Too much of this potion will bring out dangerous elements

Mind, body and soul will become uneasy, stomach queasy
St-st-st-stuttering slurred speech occurs
Stumble around lookin like Bozo the Clown
Had a happy look turns into a frown
Beligerently speakin, pores start reaking
Damn this potion is doin too much

I'm bout lose my gut spill it into the seat next to me damn the devil thinks he's blessin me
Drank is undressin me, police checkin me, need some testin see?
Before I stumbled upon this drink I was coo...
Now I tasted this power actin like a foo
What can I do?? Practically goin outta my mind sporatically speaking
Got my cerebellum to find

Today's the day I seek my help
Find what's goin on and stop before I destruct myself...
