Promilitical Bill

"It feels like I’m running for president of a small country..."

By Bill Lewis Jr.
April 29, 2007

Listen to this Commentary!

Youth Radio's Bill Lewis Jr. may feel like he's running for president...but he's actually just running for prom king. Bill reports on the cutthroat prom competition from the front lines.

I used to like prom, but now, every time I think about it, I need an Advil.

I’ve been thrown into a political, no wait, promolitical fiasco. I ‘m running for Senior Prom King, but it feels like I’m running for president of a small country and my opponents are already plotting my demise.

The controversy began with my campaign for Junior Prom Prince last year. People said I spent too much money, which I didn’t. Others said I stole campaign ideas—totally false. And then there were the accusations of slander—Preposterous!

For Senior Prom, I have to work my way through a virtual minefield of do’s and don’ts just to put up some simple campaign posters.

Despite the promolitical nightmare staring me straight in the face, I’m still running. And in the end it’s just politics...dirty prom politics.
