Young Voters

"It is time for young adult voters to realize that we have more to lose by not voting."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Wesley Myrick

I have always been interested in politics. However, that isn’t something I have in common with many of America’s young adult voters. Less than one-third of 18-24 year olds voted in the last presidential election. And we all know the outcome of the race came down to thousands of votes in some states, and mere hundreds in others.

It is time for young adult voters to realize that we absolutely have more to lose by not voting than any other interest group in America. Our agenda is always buried under issues such as Medicare or Taxes.

Many of my friends who are registered voters neglected to vote in the last election. So this year, I’m determined to make them see the error of their ways. I’m telling my friends the availability of well paying jobs, and the opportunity for college scholarships is directly related to presidential policies. So, they better vote for the candidate who has our best interests in mind and not just the interests of our parents and grandparents.

So to all you young registered voters out there…go vote in November, you never know how significant your vote might be.
