Distant Love

"People tell me it will be easier to break up that way because we won't end on a bad note."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Emily Greenwell

The way I see it, long distance relationships never work out.

I never wanted to be in a long distance relationship myself. But at the beginning of this year, I started dating my boyfriend, who's a year behind me in school.

So now I'm going to Boston for college next year, and my boyfriend is going to be in California. I trust him, but if I couldn't see him for four months, my dormant jealous side would probably start to break free. There's always the phone, but I don't think that my first year in college would be as enjoyable if I was sitting waiting for a phone call from my boyfriend back home. Plus, those phone bills would make it so I couldn't afford a long distance relationship. People tell me it will be easier to break up that way because we won't end on a bad note. To me, the way we have to end it will be much harder.

But it's stll heartbreaking in its own way to have to set a limit on our relationship before I really feel like our time is up.
