Video Girls

"Revealing clothing attracts the wrong kind of guys, and makes men pay more attention to a girl’s butt than her face or her personality."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Imani Mann

In my free time I like to watch music videos. As I tune into my favorite songs and sing along, I can’t help but notice all of the grown women that are only half-dressed. What’s up with that? The “video girl” look is becoming a trend among teenage girls. I think some teen fashions, like jersey dresses and Air force Ones, are really cute.

On the other hand super short shorts are just plain nasty. Revealing clothing attracts the wrong kind of guys, and makes men pay more attention to a girl’s butt than her face or her personality.

Also, the women in these videos are causing young teenage girls to lower their self-esteem. Many of these young teens are calling themselves ugly and un-pretty because they don’t consider themselves as attractive as the girls in the video. I choose not to wear the short shorts or the skimpy clothes of background dancers. I have good self-esteem. Every day I can wake up and feel good about myself.
