Girls in Videos

"Back in the day when rap first came out you would hardly ever see a woman in a video, let alone see a half naked one dancing around at a party or around a pool."

By Reyna Markham

In most rap and hip hop music videos, women are dressed up in as little clothing as possible. It’s rare to see a rap or hip hop video where women are fully clothed and respected. Music video directors believe that more skin makes more money. The woman that is wearing the least clothing gets the most attention.

Nowadays, it’s nothing for a woman to show he breast or her butt in these music videos. Back in the day when rap first came out you would hardly ever see a woman in a video, let alone see a half naked one dancing around at a party or around a pool.

More music videos are advertising sex. No longer is it about love or getting to know a person, it’s just about having sex. I think women should not dress the way they do in rap and hip hop videos. I think video girls that dress like that are negative influences for little girls. Nowadays, girls in elementary school think it’s cool to dress in little skimpy clothes. Hopefully this fad will change.

There are some video girls that dress a little covered up, but most of them don’t, even though the women get paid for what they do. They are not put on as very positive role models. I hope in the near future women in music videos could be looked up to in a positive way.
