Media Overload

"To me, mainstream media news sounds biased."

By Margarita Rossi

I don’t like watching mainstream news.

I’m Margarita Rossi with a commentary from Youth Radio.

I find myself depressed, infuriated and ultimately not enlightened much by the presentation and content of the news.

To me, mainstream media news — television and radio — sounds biased; it often has a spin, either agreeing or disagreeing with the issue at hand.

Sometimes I’m not sure if they are even trying to be informative, or if they are giving us just enough information to pass the show off as news programming to sell commercial time. I mean, why was the death of Gwyneth Paltrow’s father the first or second headline reported on CNN news when there are so many important things happening right now?

In this day and age, there’s no way to block out the news. What concerns me is the way this huge force in our lives generally goes unquestioned. I think we need to be constantly challenging our media to produce fair and unbiased news.

For Youth Radio, I’m Margarita Rossi.
