Youth Radio's Phillip Harvey tries to avoid mean spirited people, and he doesn’t understand why angry people take their frustrations out on others. Philip says he's learned to control his anger as he gets older: He usually tries to sit down and think about a situation before he blows up at someone else... But Phillip still wishes others could do the same.
I’m not a mean person. But sometimes I get mad when someone tells me what to do. To calm myself down, I sit in my room and think, “Is this worth getting mad over?”
Sometimes, people have a reason to be mean. But they shouldn’t be mad at the whole world… that’s not going to solve anybody’s problems. When I come across someone who is mean spirited for no reason, I avoid that person. Especially if I didn’t do anything to them. I had a boss like that, and I had to leave my job.
It’s annoying to me when people are angry. I’m not singing that old song, “don’t worry, be happy,” but people should put things into perspective.
Displacing your anger is always misguided and it hurts everyone involved. If you are angry at a certain person, you should stay mad at that individual until the issue is resolved. Being mad at the whole world will get you into a world of trouble with the world.
