"In the end, I was the only one to get in trouble."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Ashton Lewis

I think all people should be treated the same way.

Once I didn't get treated fairly at school, and I know it happens to other people out there in the world. My teacher grabbed me and tried to push me into her room, just because my cousin had given me a dollar. I pushed her away in return, to defend myself. In the end, I was the only one to get in trouble, although we were both pushing. That's not right.

Whether a principal is white or black, he or she should treat every child fairly, like a parent would. I think before a school hires a principal it should ask them questions like, "How would you treat a child? How would you punish them?"

Teachers and principles should be there to help make school a pleasant place, not a place where you are unjustly treated.
