Women’s Rights

"Women are being disrespected here in the U.S. almost everyday."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Kalid Mohammed

People talk about Muslim countries like those are the only places women don’t have rights. But if you look around, you’ll see that women are being disrespected here in the U.S. almost everyday.

One day I was chillin’ with my friends and there was one kid in the group who we had just met. We were just having a regular day, talking about the neighborhood girls and stuff. Then my sister got off the bus. The new kid didn’t know she was my sister, and when he saw her he said “Dang, I’d hit that any time.” I felt bad, and remember saying, “That’s my sister, dog”. It hurt me to hear somebody talk about my sister like that. Then I thought about everything men say when they talk about women.

People might be hearing this and thinking, as a male, why do I care? I care because I have a mother, sister, and female friend. If you look at it the way I do, then you’ll understand.
