Speeding Tickets

"This has become a custom of mine thanks to the D.C. government’s great, new innovative cameras."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Enrique Rivera

These tickets are driving me crazy!! I just got a ticket half an hour ago. This has become a custom of mine over the past year thanks to the D.C. government’s great, new innovative cameras. These little miracles of science take photos of you speeding down the street.

I owe 500 dollars, which I don’t have, to some collection agency for the tickets I received, going the dreaded 11-15 miles over the speed limit. What makes things worse is the ridiculous speed limits in certain areas of the city. Michigan Avenue is like a freeway, and they want me to go 25 miles per hour! The other day I was driving there, and a pigeon -- you know, the ghetto kind that walks, instead of flying -- was really smoking me. I swear I heard it squeal, “Eat my dust!”

I see only one way to end this problem, so I beg you Mr. President, send in the troops!! And rid us of this oppressive dictator that rules my people.
