A’s vs Giants

"Those of us fourteen and under can get into an A’s game for as low as five dollars, while it takes at least 20 dollars to get into SBC no matter your age."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Nico Savidge

Even if the A’s didn’t have a winning record this season, I would still rather be an A’s fan than a Giants fan.

When it comes to what teens care about – accessibility, price and overall fun – McAfee Coliseum, and the A’s, blow out their cross-bay rivals at SBC Park.

When it comes to getting there, it’s far easier to go to the Oakland Coliseum without a car. For me to get to the A’s stadium, all I have to do is hop on BART and ride to the Coliseum Station. With San Francisco, I have to take BART to the Embarcadero station, a long trip costing more than six dollars from where I live.

Unless you come from the area of East Oakland known as Piedmont, that’s a little too pricey for most teens. Those of us fourteen and under can get into an A’s game for as low as five dollars, while it takes at least 20 dollars to get into SBC no matter your age.

If I decide to start going to ballgames and I get so rich that, in the words of Jay-Z: “Money ain’t a thang,” I’ll head to SBC Park.
