Fashion Forever

I love forever 21, which is a clothing store for teens, adults, and some guys. Forever 21 clothes are just so fashionable and trendy. I love shopping there. I’m a fashionable person so the jewelry there helps me to accessorize and complete my outfit. They have all types of jewelry, from long chains to short ones, bows, bracelets, earrings, gold accessories and silver ones. They have a lot of things that’s why I love this store.

Anything that I see that is cute I just have to have it. They also have boy clothes. It’s formally called heritage but it’s still forever 21 and I really like their boy clothes. Heritage clothing to me are “pretty boy” type of clothes. For some who don’t know, a pretty boy is a boy who takes care of himself and likes to look nice. There clothes aren’t baggy but they aren’t hella tight either but not all forever21 stores have heritage. I think that all forever 21 stores should have boy’s clothes because it’s not really right. A boy shouldn’t have to go all the way to San Francisco for some forever 21 clothes. They should be able to go to any forever 21 store just like us girls.

Forever 21 recently caused controversy with its new maternity clothes for pregnant people. I think it’s a good thing that they have it because a lot of people shop there, including adults who could buy the clothes for themselves or as a gift for someone else. Some people may think the maternity clothes encourage teen pregnancy but I disagree. As a teen, I should know because a lot of teens already know about sex, pregnancy and all that, plus they should know better. If some teens do choose to be pregnant I’m pretty sure it isn’t for the clothes because there are way better clothes out there than pregnancy clothes. I don’t think that clothes have that affect on you or make you to want to get pregnant.

Gothic Industrial Subculture

Gothic industrial culture is a culture in itself, where people who have like interests come together. I really enjoy this subculture because of the music, art and fashion. The music tells stories about certain things in my life. There was a time when I was constantly fighting with my grandmother and it really hurt me. The way I eased my hurt inside was by listening to this music to let out what I was feeling. I really related to what I was listening to. The music is very sad, slow, angry, loud, or even screaming. Some artists that contribute to this subculture play metal, rock, grunge, techno, and alternative music. In my opinion, the music is very important to this subculture. To me the lyrics really ment more than they literatlly were. The Goth culture is seen as a type of cult to others who are not familiar with it. Many in the media have incorrectly associated the Goth subculture with violence, hatred of minorities, and other acts of hate. However, violence and hate do not form the culture; rather, the culture is formed in part by recognition, identification and grief over social and personal evils that the mainstream culture wishes to ignore or forget. There is some violence against Goths because of public misunderstanding and ignorance surrounding Gothic subculture. Goths sometimes suffer prejudice, discrimination and intolerance. I appreciate the Gothic style because it reminds me of a passion I have with the medieval times, which really caught my attention and made me interested. So if you are like me and have interest in this Gothic culture, please look more into this (before you jump to conclusions).

My Uggs

I recently just bought my first pair of uggs! The uggs brand is known for its warm and comfortable boots.best for using in the cold winter days. There are styles for just about everyone and every age. Uggs orignated from australia and new zealand about 200 years ago. Orignally, they were called "ug or ugh boots" which is short for "ugly". However, an american importer presented the idea that the name ugg comes from the way that the boot "hugs" the wearers foot and legs.

Uggs are made from sheepskin, which makes them range from $120-$220. Yes they are expensive! But they are worth it. I say they are worth it because the material last a long time opposed to the generic uggs that are sold at target,shiek, and payless that range from $30-40. The generic uggs are made from suede. Due to the cheaper material, generic uggs usually don’t last as long as the authenic ugg boots.The style that intrigued me the most was the bailey button. The shoe has a button on the side with the ugg logo,attached with a elastic band. The bailey button can be worn up or cuffed down, adding a little variety depending on your style. Because it’s the winter, i decided to get a neutral color which was chestnut.. I bought that type because they match with just about any color.the insole of the shoe is made with a soft foam covered in sheepskin. While the outsole is made with a flexible molded eva that makes you shoes extra comfortable. I orignally wear size 6 in women but because uggs run big it’s recommended to buy one size smaller so i bought a size 5. The size 5 fits comfortably on me. Out of all the shoes i have ever had in my life, i would have to say my uggs are the most comfortable pair of shoes i have owned. When I get a job i plan to purchase another pair of uggs in gray.if you are a person whos loves comfort i strongly recommend you buy a pair.

A new fashion trend may be coming across the ocean, turning twitter language into an accessory.

A company in The Netherlands called TweetRings .com, enables you to submit your favorite 140 character tweet and have it engraved on a ring band. The rings come in steel (89 Euros) , silver (99 Euros), and titanium (109 Euros). The company's slogan reads, "Your favorite tweet wrapped around your finger."

Back In The Day

I remember how excited I was when “Sister, Sister” came on when i was little, back in the 90’s. I knew the exact times, too. There was no such thing as a “guide” button on the remote. I’d sit there and watch Tia and Tamara grow from day to day. I would compare myself to them, i’d think to myself, “oh I have a beauty mark, and curly hair, too!” I wanted to be like them. I mean, was that so bad? They were smart girls who got themselves into stupid situations, but somehow still had fun and learned a valuble lesson in the end. What happened to t.v. shows like that? “The Fresh Prince”, “Hey Arnold”, “The Rugrats”? Innocent and moralistic. It seems like kids shows aren’t made for kids now. Or maybe the meaning of what a kid is has changed, in the new generation. My ten year old brother looks forward to watching shows like “South Park”, “Pretty Little Liars”, and “The Secret Life of an American Teenager” -- and not to mention the vulgar commercials in between. My little brother came up to me one day bewildered, “Corey, come here, hurry” he said. I rush into the living room thinking somethings wrong. He’s sitting on the couch and points his little finger at the t.v. and asks, “what is KY jelly for her and him? And why is their hair all blowned back?” I didn’t know what to say… kids are greatly influenced by what they see on t.v.. I know, because I used to be a kid. It seems the fashion of the 90’s is coming back, but what about the lifestyle?

Business Of The Future: How Millennials Would Run A Company

Youth Radio recently profiled a company called Mr. Youth, a marketing agency targeting youth consumers. They claim to be experts in engaging young people, which includes enticing young people to remain on their own payroll for long periods of time. They were recently voted one of the best places to work in New York City by Crain's magazine.

Mr. Youth recently collaborated with Intrepid, to conduct a study with the goal of finding out how Millennials, or people born in the 1980s, would design and manage a company. The results of the study provide insight into the minds of young people today, and how our companies will be run in the near future.

The study took two groups of Millennials, one in the U.S. and one in the U.K. and challenged them with the task of creating a model for how to run a fashion retail company, including the organizational structure, product development, and marketing aspects of the company.

They found consistent preferences among both groups of young people. First of all, Millennials did not write in a definitive CEO to their company, but instead organized company staff into teams with expert areas of focus. However, 82 percent of the 1,000 Millennials included in the study said that it is important to have a staff that can do each others' jobs.

In addition, Millennials gave equal weight to design and creativity, as finance and management, and valued having diverse opinions when it came to decision-making. The study showed that Millennials desire continual change, and a constantly challenging environment. When it comes to company hierarchies, Millennials are not persuaded by seniority or systems of tenure, and they believe strongly that, "Authority is earned and proven through direct interactions, not given blindly based on titles and experience."

Millennials designed a company where each employee starts at the bottom level, and works their way up, so that each employee gets face to face contact with consumers.

Do You Really Love Boobies?

There’s a new fashion craze on the scene. It seems as if every high school student can be spotted wearing an “I [heart] Boobies!” bracelet. They are starting to have the same effect that the “Livestrong” bracelets had in 2004. The Keep-a-Breast organization created the “I [heart] Boobies” bracelets to raise awareness of breast cancer, they were generally targeting youth. The bracelets come in various colors; such as black and white, pink and white, green and white, and blue and white. These colorful accessories made their debut at my school during the end of last year; however, if you go out today, you can’t look at anyone’s wrist without seeing the vibrant and attention-grabbing latex.
At first, I thought the bracelets were a good idea. I thought they would really open young people’s eyes to the truth behind breast cancer. I was wrong. When I asked my friends what they wear the bracelets for, they all said the same thing; “Because I love boobies.” Although they’re very popular, the bracelets haven’t fulfilled their primary goal.
“I [heart] Boobies” bracelets can be found at Zumies, a store that sells mainly skateboard gear & merchandise. They are sold individually with no type of information attached informing consumers what they are buying and why they are buying them. I believe this is where the marketing goes wrong. The bracelets should be sold in little bags with a small pamphlet or brochure included, telling people about breast cancer and what they can do to support the cause. Until then, these bracelets will just be worn as fashion statements instead of them being worn to raise social awareness.
Many school authorities find the bracelets offensive and have banned them from their campuses. One student was actually suspended for wearing it. The bracelets have been called inappropriate, irresponsible, provocative, and immoral. People wish the word “boobies” wasn’t used, they believe there should’ve been a more subtle approach with the creating and marketing of the bracelets. However, if your main audience is younger people, you have to of course APPEAL to the younger crowd. Unfortunately, this may mean using words such as boobies. I honestly don’t think it’s that offensive, I say boobies, my mom says boobies, and even my little cousins say boobies. I believe some people just look for petty things to complain about. Everyone says breast cancer awareness isn’t taken seriously, but as soon as something DIFFERENT is done about it, it’s a problem.
Anyway, I proudly rock my “I [heart] Boobies” bracelet daily. I never worry about if it matches with what else I have on; I wear it for the cause. In due time, I believe everyone will wear these bracelets in support of breast cancer awareness and not let them fade away just like every other fashion craze.

F-I-T to get your J-O-B

Going on job interviews can make us nervous enough, we should at least be able to relax when it comes to the clothes we wear.

If we're looking for work, we're usually not walking around with full pockets. So check out basics from inexpensive stores- like this shirt or these pants. If you like wearing dresses, try something simple like this. You can add a pair of dark tights to make it even more proper-style for work.

Basic, non-trendy clothes are best for interviews because they're hard to tell apart from the pricier stuff. It's not necessary to wear a fancy brand to impress your interviewer. They should remember you for what you'll contribute to their company, not because you had a giant sparkly Ed Hardy Tiger clawing it's way out of your pocket.

Try to stick with collared shirts- preferably long sleeve if you got any tats on your forearms. If you like heels, don't go for anything too high. It sucks, but sometimes people judge women a little tougher when they have sexier clothes on. Keep jewelry simple- it's better if you wear smaller earrings and few rings. And PLEASE, pretty please, pop out your grill before your interview.

We don't offer this advice because there's any PERFECT way to dress. Interview clothes can seem square sometimes, but they're not any worse or better than what we usually sport. But to keep it real, people who haven't finished high school sometimes face even extra discrimination at interviews. So we have to learn how to play the (clothes) game, so we can win.

The Good's and Bad's of 2010 Oscar Fashion

So the Oscars were amazing and Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were great hosts. Sadly, the dresses weren’t as great. Evidently ruffles are in now and EVERYONE is wearing them.

First up is Jennifer Lopez. I loved the color of the dress with her skin, but the style with the layers of puffed fabric coming from her hip, just made her butt look HUGE. It was like a light pink sea urchin.

Next is Zoe Saldana. I love this woman, but her dress is awful. It’s like puffs of purple that almost seem to resemble some of the plants in her latest movie Avatar. Also, the colors of the dress go from sparkling white, to a light purple waist that fails to hug in the right places, to a darker purple and then an almost blackish purple. The colors are not working for me at all and the cut is all wrong for a woman’s body.

The next dress is a dress worn by Vera Farmiga. It’s definitely one of the worst dresses so far giving that it looks like she’s wearing a deformed rose. The color I will admit is beautiful, but I only have one question -- how is she going to sit down in that thing?

So talking about roses, Charlize Theron managed to wear roses on her boobs. It's a dark pink dress, with light pink roses on her breasts than it flares out in the back to become like a short train of the lighter pink. The front actually hugs her body nicely. The roses just throw the whole thing off. Almost like you can’t look at her face because your so fixed on why she has roses on her chest.

Probably the worst dress was worn by Diane Kruger. It looks like birds made a nest on her body. It’s like there’s a band of feathers around her neck, waist, and then a weird ruffle thing and than another ring of feathers. The bottom of it looks kind of 1920’ish but for the most part, other than the bottom of the dress, I hate it. It’s absolutely awful and I have no idea what the designer was thinking.

So I hate Miley Cyrus with a very deep passion and her dress is only somewhat better. The top of the dress looks almost like lingerie and the strip around her waist makes her look a little pudgy but for the most part, it’s not half bad.

Now onto the good dresses…

My favorite dress was definitely Sandra Bullock’s. The gold in the dress goes perfectly with her hair and her make up. It’s not to revealing so it leaves a lot to the imagination except that it’s almost see through along the chest. It’s so beautiful and it worked perfectly on stage when she won her Oscar.

My second favorite dress has got to go to Meryl Streep. She always manages to have a beautiful dress that makes her just glow. This year it was very simple but had a low cut in the front and than a tight strip around her waist before falling perfectly down the lower half of her body. The whiteness of the dress really makes her skin look young and the blond hair usually is too light for a white dress, but she pulled it off beautifully.

Another favorite was Carey Mulligan’s dress. I loved the little keys and silver wear on the dress and how it was cut at the bodice then flared out at the calves and flowed out behind her. The dress made her look cute and sophisticated and it really brought out the blond in her hair. I loved the character in the dress even though no one else seemed to…

For Amanda Seyfried's dress I’m having trouble figuring out whether I’m in love with it or it’s too much. The bodice seems too flattening but I love how the skirts puffed out at the bottom and going from the hip down is almost like a ripple of fabric. Plus it’s sparely and makes her look kind of like a princess.

I loved Kristen Stewart’s dress. It was a amazing deep blue that made her skin glow and the creases are really beautifully placed. The way it flares out at the knees after kind of like a pencil skirt just looks amazing. The dress is something that I would definitely wear and I’m sad that they didn’t talk more about her dress on the red carpet.

Most of the dresses were awful, but some of them really made you think that there are still some fashion designers with some taste out there.
