Youth Radio's story on unschooling--a more unstructured self-directed form of homeschooling-- aired on NPR's All Things Considered.

Turnstyle took this topic and went a little further by compiling a list of the more famous names that made their living a full-time classroom.

Serena and Venus Williams—professional tennis players. Serena is a former World No. 1 and currently ranked World No. 25 in singles and No. 20 in doubles with sister Venus Williams.

Hillary Duff -- actress, singer-songwriter, entrepreneur, and author. Duff gained fame playing the title role in the Disney Channel television series Lizzie McGuire.

Justin Timberlake—Six time Grammy winner and two Emmy Award winner. He’s a pop artist and was the lead singer of the hit boy group NSYNC and currently adding to his resume, actor.

Whoopy Goldberg—born Caryn Elaine Johnson, is a comedian, actress, singer-songwriter, political activist and talk show host of the View. Goldberg received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress and won her first Golden Globe Award for her first film, The Color Purple.

J ulian Paul Assange—An Australian publisher, journalist, computer programmer and internet activist. Assange is the editor in chief of WikiLeaks—a website for worldwide news leaks.

Sho Timothy Yano—Wikipedia describes him as an Asian-American child prodigy with an estimated IQ of 200. Yano was reading by age 2, writing by age 3, playing classical music on the piano by 4, and composing by age 5. After scoring 1500 out of 1600 on his SAT at age 8, he joined Loyola University Chicago at age 9. Yano is the youngest to ever earn a PhD at Chicago University, he only 18-years-old.

Joey Logano—AKA “sliced bread” is a 21-year-old stock car auto racing race car driver who currently drives the #20 Home Depot Toyota Camry in the Sprint Cup Series and the #20 Game Stop/Sport Clips Toyota Camry in the National Series for Joe Gibbs Racing. Any of these surprise you?

Black Celebrities Flock To Twitter? Early Adopters Bail on FB?

It's not just Oprah and Shaq...

In an attempt to figure out why the latest Edison Research study shows that African-Americans are disproportionally represented on Twitter, Business Insider writer Nick Saint floats the theory that there are more Black celebrities on Twitter than White celebrities.

I'm not really sure what to make of his idea, as no one has gone and done an actual count yet, but from my own experience of Twitter celebs play only a secondary role in my tweetage.

Also of interest in the Edison report are the raw numbers on users across the social media spectrum. While Twitter and Facebook share roughly the same level of awareness in the total population of the United States (at 87% and 88% respectivly), Facebook blows the microblogging service out of the water with a whopping 41% of the population having an FB profile versus just 7% of the population using Twitter.

For now.

While Facebook has been growing steadily for the last few years a privacy backlash has been growing amongst the digeratti in the face of the social network's new plan to connect the entire internet to Facebook's "Like" system. Users are objecting to the number of hoops they now have to jump through in order to opt-out of the system. The backlash bubbled up on BoingBoing today, with triumphantly told tales of users finding ways to permanently delete their accounts and not just deactivate them as Facebook would prefer.

It seems that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg no longer believes in privacy, but some users are discovering that living in surveillance society is no longer "fun and cool". In my experience, the more complex Facebook's privacy settings get and the more connections I have on the site the more it feels like a third job. A sensation I have yet to experience on Twitter.

Mr. Perry Has A Stalker

According to Extra TV 35-year-old Dawne Wilson was arrested last month for allegedly stalking movie producer and playwright Tyler Perry. It was reported that she allegedly disguised herself as a crew member on the grounds of Tyler Perry’s studio and managing to meet him. That’s not all, Mr. Perry says he also thinks she’s been emailing him, and sleeping in the woods of his Buckhead Estate. She has also been discussing her plans to marry him. Ms. Dawne has appeared in court pleading not guilty. It is very scary as well as intimidating to be stalked, because you begin to imagine all the things this person might be capable of doing. You never know how dangerous a person is, especially someone you don’t know. Celebrities are always being stalked, however, this issue with Tyler Perry, shows that it can happen to anyone, from R&B Singers and talk show hosts to movie actors and just your average person.

Ever since the feud between rappers Tupac Shakur and Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace ended in violence, media feuds, or “Beef” have been more and more visible in more places and used as promotional tools. Daily Show host, John Stewart and “Mad Money” host, Jim Cramer had been feuding in the media for days leading up to Cramer’s appearance on Stewart’s show. The buzz on the appearance was talked about on every social network, and Stewart’s relentless ridicule of Cramer and CNBC is still buzzing on the net.

Not to be outdone by media anchors, rapper 50 Cent is going full throttle in his diabolical plot to ruin Roick Ross’ career as a rapper. First he released a mixtape, typical. But then he started releasing internet videos, taking the mother of Ross’ child on a shopping spree dissing the rapper.

Then 50 released cartoons depicting the rapper as an officer, based on reports Rick Ross used to be a correctional officer in a maximum security institution. Ross has responded with his own cartoon and songs, but recently 50 Cents efforts had been turned up several notches. He’s publishing a book authored by the mother of Rick Ross’ children, slamming the rapper. He will also commentate on an adult tape of Ross’ other child’s mother. This could get ugly! Both rappers have albums due out in the 3rd quarter

Beef can introduce two types of celebrities to whole new demographics. Case in point: rapper Noreaga and celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton. The two had been talking trash to each other over social network, Twitter. It’s not really important what they’re fighting over, but what’s important is that people I know that don’t know of Noreaga are asking “Who’s this rapper Noreaga?” and people I know are asking “Who is Perez Hilton?” For this Beef however, things are staying rude, non threatening and comical.

Let’s hope it stays this way for all beefs, because we don’t need mad cow.

Minneapolis-St. Paul - That's right, folks: MSNBC's Joe Scarborough sent Youth Radio's Kelly Chau to Cloud 9. Check out the video at Current.

During my third day at the 2008 Republican National Convention, I visited a lot of various media outlets and interviewed a few goers at the Xcel Energy Center, but my last interview was special. After stumbling across the convention floor, I finally spotted my hero, Joe Scarborough of MSNBC. Best believe, my eyes literally popped out of my head. There was no time for me to waste, so I walked up to him, introduced myself, told him about Youth Radio, and asked him if he could spare a minute. And you guessed it, he cheerfully said "sure." So I interviewed him, asked him a few questions pertaining to current politics. After that, we snapped a photo together, as you can see. Then out of nowhere, Nate Hadden (Cameraman) busted me out by telling him I had a crush on him! But Joe didn't seem to mind, thankfully. He simply laughed. He ultimately made my day - I could hardly breathe afterwards.
