Technology Manager
Youth Radio's mission is to promote young people's intellectual, creative and professional growth through training and access to media and to produce the highest quality original media for local and national outlets
Through hands-on practice, working relationships with industry professionals, and production of award-winning programming, Youth Radio students learn the basics of broadcasting. In the process, they're exposed to a broad spectrum of media-related careers.
Youth Radio students also strengthen their foundation in basic "life-skills": verbal expression, writing, computer technology, critical thinking, conflict resolution, and more.
General Description:
The Technology Manager is responsible for the oversight and direction of Youth Radio’s Technology Department, which provides the organization production engineering and IT services.
Responsibilities:
• Participate in inter-departmental coordination and the development of policy, standards, and documentation for security, change management, and both production and business procedures.
• Manage all areas of the Tech Department, including setting goals, designing solutions, and project management, as well as daily routines of staff and interns to support corporate and production employees.
• Serve as primary liaison between Senior Management and Tech Department staff.
• Manage routine department business such as budgeting, purchasing, and prioritizing project plans with senior staff to provide on-time delivery of products and services.
• Studio management of Audio/Video production; maintaining studio production standards for national and local programming, including archiving, operational procedures, rental, maintenance, etc.
• Provide advanced engineering training for classes and interns (including training on studio feeds, mixing, field production, archiving, web radio production, etc)
• Oversight of media content distribution systems with stations and youth media producers.
• Trains engineering students in Core and Bridge classes.
• Helps manage IT consultant and Engineering consultant.
Work Experience Requirements:
• Five years experience in the broadcast radio/TV industry integrating technology to satisfy the needs of artists, engineers, and including, audio, video, and business data.
• Broad technical knowledge of broadcast production and IT systems.
• Team leader and team builder; ability to prioritize tasks and perform duties, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Experience in providing written documentation and materials for presentation in professional and academic settings.
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related field, or equivalent combination of educational and work-related experience
Position/Salary:
1.0 FTE (40hrs/week), salary commensurate with experience and skills.
