I care about my parents because they are the ones who brought me to this world. They get me anything I want. They take me to my basketball games and school. They help me in everything.

I care about basketball because this is “my thing”. This is what I want to do when I grow up. This is basically what I imagine my future to be. This is my life. This is my dream. Basketball is me.

I care about my friends because they help me through everything. They help me through tough times. They make me feel better. Friends are basically why I go to school besides education.

I think its good for everyone to learn more about it. What does Ramadan mean? Ramadan is the name of the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. I got to interview Mohammed Omer, a young Palestinian journalist from Gaza. Mohammed is only 25 and is already an award winning journalist. In 2008 he won the Martha Gellhorn prize for Journalism in London. When he came back to Palestine after winning the award, he went through the Allenby Border crossing on the Jordan-Israel border. He was brought into a small room where he was interrogated, tortured, and brutally beaten by Israeli forces.

This past Thursday, President Obama spoke at Cairo University in Egypt during his Middle East tour in an effort to build bridges between the United States and the people of the Middle East. Of special focus was the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. During the speech he recognized that, while the American government is an ally of Israel, Palestinians face “daily humiliations, large and small, that come with occupation.”

Freelance journalist Safa Joudeh lives in Gaza City and in the past two weeks her home has become a warzone.  She has been keeping a journal since the first day of the war.

December 27th, 2008

It was just before noon when I heard the first explosion.  I rushed to my window and barely did I get there and look out when I was pushed back by the force and air-pressure from another explosion.

What followed seems pretty much surreal.
