Students took over the business building of San Francisco State University on Wednesday morning to protest the University of California Board of Regents approval of a 32 percent tuition increase. The 20-30 protestors have blocked the entrance to the building with desks and chairs while another 30 protesters gathered outside.

According to CBS5, though the board's vote occurred weeks ago, the students didn’t want to end the semester without making another statement in opposition to the fee increase. Other students told KCBS that paying $2,300-$2,400 in tuition next semester will leave out students who come from working-class parents. University spokeswoman Ellen Griffin said he hasn’t spoken to the students directly to address their issues but will try to open a dialogue sometime today. Griffin also mentioned the school is finding other classrooms available in order to continue to hold classes that may be impacted by the protest.

The fee increase hasn’t been taken lightly by students. When the increase was first announced, students took matters into their own hands by locking themselves at school. Some of the protests turned violent which led to multiple arrests in different UC campuses.
